Policing America - PYB on Fox News

The outstanding special from John Stossel, "Policing America: Security vs Liberty" plays again on the Fox News Channel tonight at 10 PM EST.  The complete episode is very well done, and should be required viewing for all military officers.

The small portion of the special I participated in, can be viewed by clicking here.

Those interested in the full video and details of my lawsuit against unconstitutional Border Patrol activity, can find the full video and all the details here.

  1. I read through some of the documents, and I am curious why you are asking for $500,000 in damages? Would you not agree that any money won from the government is taken from the taxpayers? What do you propose to do with this amount of money that would be better spent than what the government might choose to spend it on?

  2. I'll leave the specifics of "why" to my lawyer to present in court. You are correct, damages come from the taxpayers because that is how the system has been set up. It would be far better if damages for constitutional violations came from the pockets of those breaking the law personally, but this is the only system of accountability offered to citizens. Hopefully damages will convince somebody in the Border Patrol to reform the regular violations of our Constitution by their agents at these not-on-the-border checkpoints, with even more clearly established law, added to the existing clearly established law from the courts, to assist them.

  3. I think that, since you have brought this case into the court of public opinion quite often, a succinct explanation of why you are requesting that sum of money might be warranted. Further, regardless of your motives in requesting such a sum, you would personally receive a large amount of money if your appeal were to succeed and, therefore, explaining not only why that amount was requested but also what you intend to do with it would allow readers like myself to gain some insight into your overarching intentions with this lawsuit.

I take it you disagree based on your above response?
